What is Backcare Awareness Week?
Backcare Awareness Week is an event put together by Backcare.org. It focuses on raising awareness for back pain, as well as the methods you can use to ease it in your daily life.
Why do I have back pain?
According to the NHS, back pain often cannot be pinned down to one specific cause; this is known as non-specific back pain. Back pain can also be caused by conditions such as a slipped disc, or sciatica. However, these conditions are also generally accompanied by other symptoms, including numbness and tingling.
How can I prevent back pain naturally?
Back pain is hard to prevent, however, there are ways that you can reduce your risk naturally.
These include:
– Paying attention to your posture whilst sitting
– Avoiding sitting down for extended periods
– Doing back exercises and generally staying active
You can find inspiration for some exercises for back pain in the NHS video above; further guidance can be found on the NHS and Backcare.org websites.
How do I know if I should see a doctor?
According to the NHS, back pain tends to improve within a few weeks or months.
However, you should visit your GP if your pain begins affecting you in any of these ways:
– The pain does not start to improve after a few weeks
– You are struggling to cope with the pain, or are concerned about it
– Your pain stops you from doing everyday activities
Also, you are encouraged to seek help immediately with symptoms such as:
– A loss of bowel or bladder control
– Chest pain
– Numbness or tingling around your genitals and buttocks
A further list of symptoms to look out for can be found here.
What methods can I use for natural pain relief in Birmingham?
Aside from the aforementioned stretches and exercises, we offer natural back pain relief in Birmingham, in the form of remedies such as deep heat patches. We also offer portable, convenient pain relief in the form of our Careway Pain Relievers. The Careway device works by sending small, painless electrical pulses through electrodes placed on your skin. This interrupts pain signals sent to the brain, sending endorphins instead. The portability of the device means that you can use it for topical pain relief, wherever you go.
